COLFAX, CA (MPG) - Small towns don’t have free concerts on Main Street. Don’t tell that to the folks in Colfax, California. That’s what Erin Newington told me on POPPTALK at KAHI Radio about this 2200 strong community. It began with the Levitt Foundation that ran a national competition, funding free outdoor concerts. So, Colfax took it on in competition with much bigger populations, established nonprofits, and existing infrastructures.

That didn’t deter the newly formed Historic Downtown Colfax Association (HDCA). They didn’t win that first year but did get the grant for the upcoming Iron Horse Music Festival. I will fill you in on the details. And there’s been so much spirit that kicked in to make a big splash with five free downtown concerts this year. So, here’s the rest of the story on the Iron Horse Music Festival.

And what a day it’s going to be. The HDCA has added a family fun day, Saturday Oct. 10 from 1-9 PM featuring live music by The Rail Benders, Pinkie Rideau, Bob Woods Trio, and Achilles Wheel Trio. Add to that a lively downtown with food, crafts, and all sorts of activities for the whole family, along with the high Colfax spirit. Oh, and did I say FREE too? Colfax has a rich railroad history, and a beautiful setting for great family fun. Check out WWW.IRONHORSEMUSICFESTIVAL.COM.

By the way, Erin Newington won’t admit it, but she’s been the firecracker that lit up this community from day one, because she realized the wonderful opportunities that people just needed to know about. She brought a new and exciting life for the whole family to join in the fun at Colfax! Join in Saturday Oct. 10!!!
