Placer County Board of Education Seeks Applicants for Trustee Area 5

ROCKLIN, CA (MPG) The Placer County Office of Education (PCOE) is seeking applications from residents interested in being appointed to a vacancy on the Placer County Board of Education (County Board), created by the resignation of Trustee Kelli Gnile.

Ms. Gnile, a community leader and long-serving board member, submitted a letter of resignation, effective Friday, Aug. 14, to the Placer County Superintendent of Schools on July 21. The unexpired term will end in December 2028.

Interested applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a registered voter residing within the boundaries of Trustee Area 5 which serves the Lincoln and Western Placer communities.  All interested applications are encouraged to review and download the Board Vacancy Area 5 Candidate Application. Completed applications along with a resume should be submitted to the Superintendent of Schools office at 1400 W. Stanford Ranch Road, Rocklin CA 95765 or via email to [email protected] no later than 12:00p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4.

If less than five applications for Trustee Area 5 are received, the County Board will invite the applicants to interview at the September 10, 2026 regular meeting and make a provisional appointment to the Trustee Area 5 vacancy.  If five or more applications are received, the County Board will meet at their regular meeting on September 10, 2026 to identify the top candidates and interviews will be scheduled for the Oct. 8 regular meeting.  The provisionally appointed County Board Trustee may run for election for a new four-year term in the next election should they desire to remain on the Placer County Board of Education.

The Placer County Board of Education serves a vital role as the elected governing body for selected PCOE program that operate under the authority of the California Constitution, the Legislature and California Education Code. The County Board approves the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the county office and its charters, approves the county office budget and serves as the appellate body for inter-district transfer, expulsion and charter school appeals. Additionally, members of the County Board serve as ambassadors for the education system and advocate at the local, state and national levels.
