Placer Hosts 70 Community Members to Discover and Discuss Projects and Programs Shaping the Future of North Lake Tahoe

TAHOE CITY, CA (MPG) - Seeking to answer resident questions and engage with the community, Placer County invited members of the public to this week’s "Discover and Discuss" event in North Lake Tahoe. Nearly 70 attendees joined county staff and partner agencies at the open-house style event in Tahoe City to learn more about projects and programs shaping the vision of a vibrant, healthy, and sustainable Tahoe.

From housing to transportation, snowplows to trails, participants had a chance to meet face-to-face with regional experts, ask questions and provide feedback. It was an invaluable opportunity to learn about the diverse range of initiatives, programs, and projects enriching our region, including:

Infrastructure: County staff highlighted the 89/267 Priority Transit Lane, Fanny Bridge project, the Grove Street Signal project and Tahoe City Downtown Access project, as well as the Sawtooth Trailhead project at this week’s event.

Housing: County staff discussed affordable housing in North Lake Tahoe including the Workforce Housing Preservation Program, Lease to Locals program and Dollar Creek Crossing project.

Transit: Truckee/North Tahoe Transportation Management Association staff discussed regional transportation and TART Connect service with attendees. They offered a survey to attendees to help improve transit options moving forward.

Trails: Staff from the Tahoe City Public Utilities District and North Tahoe Public Utilities District joined county staff to discuss trails in the region, including information about the new North Tahoe Trails study. 

Land use: Placer’s Community Development and Resource Agency staff shared a look at the land use development process for any project happening in the region and insight into the county's general plan. 

Roads: County staff and Caltrans discussed winter parking restrictions, paving projects and snowplow operations.

Economic vitality: Representatives from North Tahoe Chamber joined county staff to discuss economic vitality in Placer, including the Love Nroth Tahoe program to promote shopping local. Also, the North Tahoe Community Alliance hosted a TOT-TBID Dollars at Work table.

Engage Placer: CEO and Public Information Office staff provided an overview of the new Engage Placer  website and highlighted the county’s efforts to enhance community feedback and engagement through this platform. Staff also provided general event information and logistics for attendees.

Spanish interpretation was provided throughout the evening as well as a children’s activity area.

This was the second installment of this featured open-house event to provide new and important information to the Placer County community. Staff plan to conduct the next one in spring 2025. Stay tuned for further announcements.
