Placer County Board of Education Vacancies in Trustee Areas 2 And 4

AUBURN, CA (MPG) – The Placer County Office of Education (PCOE) is seeking applications from residents interested in being appointed to vacancies on the Placer County Board of Education (County Board), created by the resignation of Trustee Susan Goto and the resignation of Trustee Robert J. Tomasini.

Goto was elected to the Placer County Board of Education in 2012 after serving for 16 years as a Trustee for the Roseville City School District Board of Education. Her resignation, effective December 31, 2021, provides an opportunity to make a provisional appointment into the new single-member Trustee Area 2 (as approved by the Placer County Committee on School District Reorganization at the December 6, 2021 Special Meeting) prior to Goto’s unexpired term ending in December 2024.

Tomasini, former educator and Roseville Joint Union High School District Superintendent, served on the Placer County Board of Education since 2006. His resignation, effective February 11, 2022, also provides an opportunity to make a provisional appointment into the new single-member Trustee Area 4 prior to Tomasini’s unexpired term ending in December 2022.

Area 2 Board Vacancy Details
Interested applicants to fill Goto’s seat must be at least 18 years of age and a registered voter residing within the boundaries of Trustee Area 2 which covers the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District and parts of Roseville City School District (Kaseberg and Hilltop Circle). All interested applicants are encouraged to review and download the Board Vacancy Area 2 Candidate Application.

Requirements per Education Code 1006: Any registered voter residing in the appropriate Trustee area is eligible to be a member of the County Board of Education except the County Superintendent of Schools or any member of his or her staff, or any employee of a school district or charter school that is within the jurisdiction of the County Board of Education.

All completed applications along with a resume should be submitted to the Superintendent of Schools Office at 360 Nevada Street, Auburn, CA 95603 or via email to [email protected] no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022. The County Board will then conduct the process to make a provisional appointment to Trustee Area 2 at a Special Board Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 5 p.m.

Area 4 Board Vacancy Details
Interested applicants to fill Tomasini’s seat must be at least 18 years of age and a registered voter residing within the boundaries of Trustee Area 4 which covers the Eureka Union School District and parts of Roseville City School District (Cirby Ranch, Maidu and East Roseville Parkway). All interested applicants are encouraged to review and download the Board Vacancy Area 4 Candidate Application.

Requirements per Education Code 1006: Any registered voter residing in the appropriate Trustee area is eligible to be a member of the County Board of Education except the County Superintendent of Schools or any member of his or her staff, or any employee of a school district or charter school that is within the jurisdiction of the County Board of Education.

The Placer County Board of Education serves a vital role as the elected governing body for selected PCOE programs that operate under the authority of the California Constitution, the Legislature and California Education Code. The County Board approves the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the county office and its charters, approves the county office budget and serves as the appellate body for inter-district transfer, expulsion and charter school appeals. Additionally, members of the County Board serve as ambassadors for the education system and advocate at the local, state and national levels.
