Assemblyman Frank Bigelow, R-O’Neals, today honored 95-year-old Charles “Chuck” Lishman as the 2016 Veteran of the Year for the 5th Assembly District. Lishman served in the United States Navy during WWII and is a Pearl Harbor survivor.

“Chuck served with distinction in the United States Navy and is true American hero, surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor and serving during WWII,” Assemblyman Bigelow said. “It is an honor to name Chuck as the 5th District’s Veteran of the Year. He is an amazing example of service and commitment to others and I commend his selfless contributions to our country.”

Bigelow, Lishman, Lishman’s wife Dorothy, and his family attended the ninth-annual Veteran of the Year Recognition Luncheon with other veterans and state lawmakers. Veteran of the Year honorees were recognized from all 80 Assembly Districts.

Ensuring that California’s veterans receive the recognition they deserve is an important priority for Assemblyman Bigelow. He has strongly supported legislation that would to make it easier for veterans to keep a job, pursue an education, and find housing.

Lifelong rancher Frank Bigelow proudly represents the 5th Assembly District, which encompasses Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Madera, Mariposa, Mono, Placer, and Tuolumne counties and includes Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
