Jun 22, 2018 12:00AM ● By PCWA News Release

PLACER COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) Board of Directors awarded six grants totaling $106,612 to six public water purveyors at its meeting on June 21. The grants, which are funded through PCWA’s Financial Assistance Program, assist Placer County special districts on projects that align with PCWA’s guiding principles of its County-Wide Master Plan including safe and reliable drinking water service, water resources stewardship, and water infrastructure reliability. The 2018 grant recipients were selected based on staff recommendations and are as follows, along with a brief description of each project:

Auburn Valley Community Service District– Awarded $10,000 for the planning and environmental permitting costs associated with the replacement of a well that has reached the end of its serviceable life. A new well will improve the water infrastructure and support water reliability by providing a more secure potable water supply for the District’s customers.

Christian Valley Park Community Service District – Awarded $15,000 for the environmental permitting and California Environment Quality Act regulatory costs associated with replacing the District’s in-ground covered reservoir with steel tanks. Replacing the existing reservoir will increase reliability of the District’s water supply.

Foresthill Public Utility District – Awarded $30,000 to support the District’s application and environmental studies related to its water rights permit extension.

Meadow Vista County Water District – Awarded $10,000 to prepare and develop a Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and facilities database. The database information can eventually be used as a basis for an asset management plan. PCWA will provide in-house support for the project.

Northstar Community Services District – Awarded $31,612 to implement water metering technology to better identify areas of water loss, and conservation opportunities, within the Northstar water system. Overtime, the data gathered will allow for improved targeting of repair and replacement projects.

Tahoe City Public Utility District– Awarded $10,000 for the planning and design of the water main replacement and associated infrastructure for the recently acquired Timberland Water Company. The replacement and upgrade project will provide enhanced fire flows, reduce system leakage, and provide water efficiency benefits to approximately 135 connections.

The next regular meeting of the PCWA Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2:00 PM at the PCWA Business Center, 144 Ferguson Road, in Auburn. PCWA board meetings are open to the public.
